Beginning in September and ending before December 31, 2012, Toledo Fire & Rescue members will be going through E.M.T. recertification to maintain standing with the State of Ohio. While many citizens may not be aware, all Toledo firefighters are State of Ohio certified to the level of Emergency Medical Technician-Basic, or E.M.T.-B. There is also approximately 150 Toledo Firefighters that have been licensed to E.M.T.-P, or paramedic. The E.M.T.-B recertification is mandatory in order to maintain the required certificates to practice in the State of Ohio. The recertification is being accomplished through the Toledo Fire & Rescue Training Academy by our own certified instructors. So the next time you see a Toledo Fire & Rescue truck in your neighborhood, it may not be for a fire, but for some type of medical emergency.
