Under the administration of Fire Chief William F. Mayo, Fire Station 17 was constructed at Detroit and Glenwood Avenues in 1908. Various apparatus have been in service at station 17, and in 1953, 17’s Ladder was moved to station 4, while District Chief 7 was moved into Fire Station 17.

In 1981, Fire Station 17 was moved to 1041 West Central Avenue where it is active today.

Captain Christopher Burns

Captain Christopher Burns was appointed to the Toledo Fire & Rescue Department on March 31, 2000. He promoted to Lieutenant on September 2011. Then promoted to Captain July 2014.

Captain Burns completed course work at Columbia Southern University, Advanced Fire Administration & Fire Prevention Organization and Management. Currently enrolled in the BGSU Fire Administration Program. He is a American Heart Association CPR Instructor, State of Ohio Fire Instructor and Fire Safety Inspector. Captain Burns is the Chair of the TFRD Awards & Recognition Committee and a member of the Safety Committee of Northwest Ohio Award Review Committee.
