We hope you had an enjoyable holiday weekend. We look forward to a prosperous 2017. Your Toledo Firefighters started off the New Year with a bang responding to 677 calls for service between Friday, December 30 and Monday, January 2. Of those, 619 runs were emergency medical in nature and 58 were fire runs. Eleven of these fire runs were working structure fires, three of which were dispatched within 45 minutes of each other.

The unusual spike in fire activity resulted in the need to request mutual aid from surrounding fire departments for a period time. We would like to thank Rossford, Oregon, Maumee, and Washington Township fire departments for assisting us during this busy start to 2017.

As always, we would like to take a moment and remind everyone to make sure you have working smoke alarms on every floor of your residence and in each bed room. Also, have a fire escape plan in place including two ways out and a meeting place.

Lastly, hats off to our firefighters, who carry out their duties professionally with the utmost commitment and service to the visitors and citizens of our great city!
